Dodgers tie Yankees for 92-year-old reigning champion record
Wednesday, April 2, 2025
It looked like the reining National League Cy Young could be the one to issue the dominant Los Angeles Dodgers their first blemish of the 2025 season, but clutch heroics and a surplus of talent allowed the 2024 World Series champions to stay perfect and beat the Atlanta Braves, 3-1. A Mookie Betts error put the NL East ballclub on top 1-0 in the second inning, but the shortstop redeemed himself in the sixth. Will Smith extended the lead with an RBI single, and the shockingly frigid Braves did not get back on the scoreboard for the rest of the night. Right-handed pitcher Dustin May made his first start in almost two years, allowing just a single hit, striking out six batters and recording three walks in five innings.
Burnes Debuts, Suarez Slams in Comeback Victory against Yankees
Wednesday, April 2, 2025
The Arizona Diamondbacks handed the New York Yankees their first loss in the series opener between the two clubs, on the back of another big eighth-inning comeback. This was behind the official D-backs debut of their newly minted ace, and the continued hot streak of Eugenio Suárez. Corbin Burnes started off strong, striking out four of his first six batters, including the first he faced in a Diamondbacks uniform. The tall righty worked around the zone consistently in the first few innings, neutralizing Aaron Judge, the reigning AL Player of the Week throughout his outing.

Try it free Giancarlo Stanton is not close to returning from the elbow tendinitis in both arms that's bothered him since last year, but the Yankees DH said he is making progress. Stanton said prior to Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Diamondbacks in The Bronx that he was hitting off a Trajekt high-velocity pitching machine and that his strength was improving. Putting a timeline on a potential comeback, though, was difficult. “I've got to catch up,'' Stanton said of the time missed, as he didn't play in spring training following

Adam Ottavino doesn't know how long his latest stint with the Yankees will last. The Yankees on Tuesday signed the 39-year-old reliever to an MLB contract and added him to the active roster, filling a spot vacated when closer Devin Williams went on the paternity list. “It's thrilling,” Ottavino said before Tuesday's series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Bronx. The right-handed Ottavino, a New York native who grew up in Park Slope, previously pitched for the Yankees from 2019-20, going 8-8 with a 2.76 ERA over 97 appearances.
