New York Yankees top prospect Jasson Dominguez was activated from the injured list on Friday. Dominguez has been on the injured list since the middle of June after suffering an oblique injury during a check swing while playing with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders — the team's Triple-A affiliate. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters earlier this week that Dominguez was close to returning to game action.

The New York Yankees have announced the death of former infielder and coach Mike Ferraro at the age of 79. Ferraro passed on Saturday, with no cause of death revealed. Ferraro played for the Yankees in 1966 and 1968 as well as the Seattle Pilots in their lone season in 1969 and later with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1972.

James Paxton is going back to the AL East. On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers traded the left-handed pitcher to the Boston Red Sox, according to reports , days after designating him for assignment. With Tanner Houck, Cooper Criswell, Nick Pivetta, Bryan Bello and Kutter Crawford entrenched in the rotation, it's unclear if Paxton will immediately jump into that group or be used in a bullpen role

Returning home following a six-game road trip, the Boston Red Sox take aim at their third straight series win over the New York Yankees when the teams begin a three-game weekend set on Friday night. The ancient rivals are meeting for the second time this month after the Red Sox pitched a 3-0 shutout to cap a series win in the Bronx on July 7, though they are coming off an ugly 20-7 loss on Wednesday at Colorado to cap a 1-5 trip. Manager Alex Cora called it a "horse (expletive) game" for his team. Outfielder Jarren Duran tripled and hit his 13th home run of the season while Rafael Devers was 3-for-3, but it was not nearly enough on a day when starting pitcher Nick Pivetta was battered for 10 hits and seven earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings.
